Clint is a heterosexual, bi-romantic cis male. He has had both male & female
sexual partners, but he prefers women to men; though, he will have romantic
& sexual relationships with men. So, technically, he would be considered
bisexual with a preference for women, however he views himself as hetero.
&, as far as gender goes, he is concretely a cis male, with no outstanding
confusion or “deviant” feelings about his own identity. He is male & identifies
as male, & honestly has difficulty grasping other genders like genderfluid,
non-binary/non-conforming, or third gender, though he is very open-minded.
characters who crave affection but at the same time have no idea how to respond to actually receiving it due to the fact theyve rarely ever experienced it are my absolute favourite
Clint is intelligent, maybe not in a scientific or mathematical way but he is still very intelligent. He is observant, & quick-minded, & incredibly logical. Clint knows a lot, & a lot more than he lets on. Honestly he kind of plays the ‘big & stupid’ card, he acts the clueless thug & that’s what most people assume of him, but he’s smart, & even if one might anticipate him being smarter than he looks they still might find themselves surprised.
He knows a lot about war, & psychology, & human anatomy. He knows a lot about guns & knives & poison & pressure points. He knows a lot of things – street smarts – & many more things on top of that. Clint doesn’t seem the type to be analytical, or thoughtful, but he is. He can read you about just as well as a psychologist could. He can be deep, he learns fast. He has a resounding intelligence that often goes overlooked, because he never tries to appear overly smart. & even when people know they don’t really know how far it goes.
Do not underestimate this man. He is always learning, always watching & paying attention. He knows things, & he knows how to know things. Do not take him simply as the man who is a weapon, who can use guns & knives, because he can use his mind just as well.
Clint has quite a few nicknames, most are circumstantial or only apply to certain people, but the nicknames themselves are an important part in understanding his life.
Quite obviously he goes by Clint instead of Clinton, because he has a lot of (bad) feelings about being called Clinton. Plus Clint is so much easier to say. But if you ever want to try your luck call him Clinton, you’ll probably get a sour look & a displeased grunt.
Hawkeye was obviously a nickname he got in his youth while in the circus, but it’s mostly a dead name now, & only a few close friends might get away with calling him Hawkeye. If you ever come across this tidbit of information from Clint’s past you have some pretty blackmail material, but you’re also risking death probably. He doesn’t like being called Hawkeye.
Pidge or Pigeon was a name he got in the army. Nowadays it kind of stings, & he doesn’t like thinking about it. All the people who called him by this name are dead.
Archer is just something people started calling Clint in the business, because mercenaries, thieves, & spies are good at digging up old information like that. He accepts it for the most part, but if you start calling him Archer you’re going to lose any possibility of friend status, because it is mostly reserved for other mercenaries & his employers.
Angel is one of those names that you hate but tolerate because everyone thinks its funny &/or cute. Well, Angel (or Anioł), is a name he got working with the Polish Mafia. Clint doesn’t even know why, just one of his associates started calling him Angel & it stuck.
Clint has an arrow tattoo on the inside of his left forearm; he got the tattoo when he was 22, he was on leave with one of the members of his task-force & they decided to get tattoos together. Clint got an arrow & his friend got a pair of glasses in the same place.
Clint also has a hawk skull tattoo at the base of his neck. Though he says he made the decision he lost a bet with a fellow mercenary & had to get the tattoo. It’s supposed to represent that his previous identity, who he was before he became a mercenary, is dead.
Clint’s last tattoo is in memory of members of his task-force who were killed in action on his right bicep. At the top it reads dum spiramus tuebimur (Latin for ‘while we breathe, we shall defend’) & below that in memoriam keller, jayce, & r.k..
